I can guarantee the same quality work as a large proofreading service (after all, I worked for one and had to pass a series of complex exams before being hired) but with more personal attention at a significantly lower price. And while most services charge a premium for same-day turnaround, I do not believe in that. If my schedule allows me to start your project promptly and return it to you ahead of your deadline, that's precisely what will happen. I will keep you updated on the status of your job, and your materials will be consistent from one project to the next because the same person (me) will be editing all your work.
I have proofread blog posts, newsletters, correspondence, press releases, white papers, advertising copy, annual reports, conference agendas, speeches, RFPs, product specifications, social invitations, restaurant menus, and just about anything else you can imagine for clients in fields as diverse as health care, higher education, high tech, finance, insurance, and law.
To better suit your needs, I offer three main levels of service and can provide a quote for jobs that are more customized:
We worked on our book for a year. We had three authors with different styles and voices. We had redundancies in our checklists and stories. We couldn't keep rereading our own work. Thankfully, we knew Irene. She took the book, worked swiftly, and gave us high-level commentary, identified global issues, and fixed everything imaginable grammatically. She went above and beyond looking at formatting. What most impressed me was her taking the time to understand our project. Who we wanted our audience to be. What we most wanted to get across. She held us accountable to our goals and helped us see our most troubled parts of the book through the intended audience's perspective. She suggested solutions so the audience could grasp what we meant by telling us how it would otherwise likely be understood or misunderstood. She let us dictate how involved we wanted to be in the editing process and delivered on her promise to involve us only when necessary. Irene gave us confidence this book will have the impact we strived for. Off to the printer!

Professional Proofreading and
Whether you're an individual updating your resume, a blogger, or a company with a website and materials that get shared with prospective clients, you should have a fresh set of trained eyes review your work. Why? Familiarity makes it impossible to proofread your own writing well. Let me ensure that your output is polished and professional so you can focus on the heart of your business.
I have always been passionate about spelling, grammar, and writing. You could even say proofreading is in my blood. My father worked as a typesetter/proofreader for various newspapers in Manhattan, back in the days of metal printing plates. I learned the value of perfection in writing at a very young age.
I studied journalism in high school, and worked my way up from reporter to copy editor to editor in chief of the school newspaper. After earning my BA in English from Cornell University, I held a variety of detail-oriented jobs, ranging from word processor to office manager. I have worked as a reporter or copy editor for almost every newspaper in Southern NH.
I most recently spent two and a half years as a contractor for a 24/7/365 online proofreading service, editing documents for Fortune 500 companies, prominent law firms, nonprofits, and clients in fields as diverse as high tech, politics, higher education, finance, and health care. I have proofread everything from press releases and blog posts to product catalogs, advertising copy, and solicitations for annual fundraisers.
People in my network who were aware of my skills and depth of experience began to contact me to handle their proofreading needs, so I decided to open my own business to better serve them and to take control of my destiny.
Because you never get a second chance to make a good first impression.
By the time I had completed the descriptive writing, considered the topics, selected the photos, and made changes to reflect the shifting nature of our massage practice for a major website redesign, I just couldn't see the errors anymore. I knew that Irene had started her own proofreading service and had the education and experience to make her the perfect person to be my eyes on the final read-through.
Boy, after getting the list of suggested changes, errors and inconsistencies, I was so happy to have engaged her. The web designer was surprised because she thought she had caught most of the format errors. So, thanks to Irene, the website is nearly perfect. We went ahead and launched on schedule because, even with a few additional changes to be made by me, it was so much better than the old website.
Thanks, Irene, for making us look good. I would be glad to recommend your services.

Our church underwent a major reorganization last year and asked Irene to proofread our new bylaws and several information sheets. She caught some errors the committee had missed even after several rounds of review. We are about to launch a capital campaign so naturally we turned to her again to look at the brochure we will distribute to potential donors. Irene helped us create a professional impression, met all our deadlines, and offered insightful suggestions.
